Cookie
Meaning
A cookie is a small named value that a browser stores at a server's request and sends back on matching later requests. It gives the stateless HTTP protocol a simple form of memory. That memory is what keeps a visitor logged in, remembers a language choice or holds a basket between page loads. A typical cookie is just a name and a value, such as sid=abc123, plus optional attributes that limit where and for how long it is used. RFC 6265 describes browsers as supporting at least 4096 bytes per cookie. See also: Set-Cookie, Cookie header, Cookie jar, the guide "How the Set-Cookie and Cookie Headers Work".
